A gear pump is among the most common types of pumps for applications of hydraulic fluid power. A gear pump operates by using the meshing of gears in order to pump fluid by displacement. These devices are usually used in chemical installations to pump fluid with specific viscosity. Two basic types of gear pumps exist. Internal gear pumps use an external and an internal spur gear and external gear pumps make use of two external spur gears. Gear pumps pump a continuous amount of fluid for each revolution. This defines them as positive or fixed displacement. Several gear pump machines are designed to function as either a pump or a motor.
While the gears turn on the pump, this action functions to divide the pump's intake side, creating a suction and a void that is filled by fluid. This fluid is carried by the gears to the discharge side, whereby the fluid is displaced by the meshing of the gears. There are really small and tight mechanized clearances, which along with the speed of revolution effectively avoid the fluid from leaking backwards. The rigid design of the houses and gears gives the pump its ability to pump highly viscous liquids and allow for extremely high pressures.
Lift trucks could be particularly marked to be used in unsafe locations. A marked truck indicates the design has met the minimum requirements of ANSI/UL 558 intended for engine powered trucks or ANSI/UL 583 utilized for electric trucks for the type of label placed.
The use for labels intended for lift trucks may be found in National Fire Protection Association NFPA 505 - Powered Industrial trucks including: Areas or Use, Maintenance and Operation, and Type Designations. Ask your local insurance provider and Fire Marshall for additional information concerning the approved uses of industrial powered trucks in your application.
If the specific lift truck satisfies the outlined criteria, labels may be put. A labeled forklift would show the type of designation put on the nameplate and would have a correctly corresponding label put.
